Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is not facing a serious shortage of teachers despite the previously reported nationwide shortfall of 20,000 teaching staff.

According to State Education Director Datuk Raisin Saidin, Sabah has filled 98 per cent of its teaching positions.

“We have just received 212 new teachers (March 7) and are looking forward to another batch of teaching staff in April to meet the needs of schools,” he said, adding an estimated 500 teaching positions are expected to be filled next month.

Raisin pointed out that the issue of recruitment and retirement is dynamic because while teachers are being recruited, others are retiring.
