Malaysia’s MetMalaysia confirms no tsunami risk following a strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia’s Banda Sea early this morning.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian authorities have confirmed there is no tsunami threat to the country following a strong earthquake in Indonesia.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported a 6.0 magnitude quake struck the Banda Sea early this morning.

Director-General Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the tremor occurred at 2.38 am.

Its epicentre was located at coordinates 7.9 degrees south and 127.8 degrees east at a depth of 173 kilometres.

“The area is 467 km from Ambon, Indonesia,” he said in a statement.
