KOTA KINABALU: A teacher told the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir that an emergency meeting was held on July 17, the day the student died, but it ended without any conclusions.
Yuslina Badrum, 38, said the brief meeting, chaired by the school principal, focused on the sequence of events from the moment Zara was found unconscious until she was taken to the hospital.
She said she was asleep at the teachers’ quarters when efforts were made to contact her at about 3am on July 16, adding that no hostel wardens were on duty that night based on the roster.
Yuslina testified that she later read Zara’s diaries and notes handed to her during the school’s internal probe, as the student was in critical condition and unable to explain what had happened.
She said the hostel phone line had been switched off for up to one and a half days on instructions of a senior warden, although students could still call their parents using other phones available at the school.
