KUALA LUMPUR – PAS has outright rubbished accusations that the Islamist party has chosen to remain with Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the 15th general election due to an offer of 47 winnable seats by Bersatu.
This is after Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki claimed that the matter was discussed during a recent meeting involving the top leaders from his party and PAS.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, however, dismissed the claim as nonsense, saying discussions did not touch on the seats being offered.
“That’s not true. He’s talking nonsense. He (Asyraf) is not even involved in the meeting,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
“In fact, we have reminded him not to publish the picture he took, because it was a closed-door meeting. He has broken his promise.
“Only four individuals were privy to the contents of discussions. The 47 seats were never mentioned in the meeting. The main issue is not the number of seats, because it was never deliberated.”
In a Facebook post on Friday, Asyraf had claimed that negotiations over political cooperation between Umno and PAS purportedly failed over seat negotiations.
He also posted photos of Umno’s top two leaders, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, in a meeting with their PAS counterparts, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Tuan Ibrahim on Wednesday.
Asyraf said during the meeting, PAS had pointed out that Bersatu has promised 47 winnable seats if it remains with PN.
However, the Umno Youth chief said for his party, negotiations for reconciliation should have been focused on the greater good of the ummah rather than focusing merely on seats for the coming election. – The Vibes, October 16, 2022
