- Prince Philip orchestrated the font's move to Gordonstoun School in 1962 when Charles began his studies there.
- Philip's intention was for his son to be "surrounded by ancient objects of English beauty" during his time at school.
- The font, originally from the disused St Michael’s Church in Upton Cressett, stood in Gordonstoun's chapel for several years.
- It was returned to its original home in Shropshire in the 1970s, where it remains today and is still occasionally used.
