Kota Kinabalu: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew welcomed two TV celebrities from China on a fact-finding mission to promote and showcase Sabah as a choice tourist destination back home.
The duo were CCTV Host Kou Chunrui and Phoenix TV Current Affairs Broadcast Director Su Zhenni, engaged by Sabah-based Hawan Maju Sdn Bhd to look into Malaysia and China 50th Year of Alliance 2024, exploring Sabah Tourism and its Investment Potential to China.
The company’s Chief Visionary Officer Nash Koh introduced them to the Minister during a courtesy call, recently.
Liew also expressed support for the work of the TV personalities in Sabah.
During the meeting, Kou and Su said that people in many provinces in China have not heard about Sabah.
Liew said ideally, fact finders must visit Sabah during festivals such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Pesta Kaamatan for them to know and understand our cultural heritage and the people’s way of life.
“I would also encourage them to catch a glimpse of Sabah’s iconic wildlife by opting for the Kinabatangan River Cruise package, among others,” she said.
The Minister suggested that Koh take the TV hosts to the various tourist hotspots so that they can share their experiences with the citizens of China through their presentation.
Kou and Su spent five days in Sabah to get the feel of The Land Below The Wind, while gaining insights into what the state has to offer tourists, visitors and investors.
According to Koh, the ladies were also doing research on the Chinese diaspora in this part of the world, especially the younger generation.
“They have analysed useful information gathered on the ground, and submitted a report to me on their findings and proposals to boost Sabah tourism.
“What they have discovered about the uniqueness of Sabah’s people and their cultures as well as economic opportunities here will be shared with China’s tourism players and potential investors eyeing Sabah as a promising market environment,” said the Chief Visionary Officer.
