PENAMPANG: Machines such as glass crushers and plastic shredders could be an alternative to failed recycling initiatives such as those taken by local authorities where they contract recycling to private companies involving big budgets.
Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang said this following a handover of a glass crusher and two plastic shredders to Happy Plastic representing Guwas Koposizon College Jinny Lim and Kg Koidupan Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) Chairman, Simon Junior Jalin.
The handover at Balairaya Koidupan on Tuesday marked a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against plastic and glass waste.
Jannie thanked Tonibung for starting the idea of innovating machines for these purposes and the NGOs and communities who have persisted over the years to tackle recycling of bottles and plastics.

“We are not helpless in the face of this challenge. Innovative solutions like this recycling machine give us hope. They remind us we can turn the tide on plastic and glass pollution with determination and collaboration.
“This machine represents the culmination of advanced engineering and environmental stewardship. It has the power to transform discarded plastic and glass into valuable resources that can be used to create various products.
“I urge the public and especially Kapayan residents to segregate their waste and send their plastic and bottles to the Tg Aru Marine Ecosysyem (TAME) Centre and Balairaya Koidupan for recycling,” said Jannie.
