Irish premier Micheál Martin has said there is “nothing confirmed” in relation to the possible visit of Donald Trump to Ireland next month.
It is understood that the US president will visit Ireland for at least two days from September 12.
The trip will include a visit to Co Clare, where he is expected to attend the Irish Open golf tournament at his course in Doonbeg.
Mr Trump is also expected to visit Dublin, but details on many elements of the engagement have yet to be finalised.
The final day of the Irish Open is September 13, with 9/11 commemorations due to take place in the US that week.
“Nothing confirmed there yet,” Mr Martin said in Belfast on Thursday about a possible Trump visit.
“There’s been lots of speculation in respect of a prospective visit.
“He did say in his address to the Fourth of July celebrations at the American embassy that he would like to come to the Irish Open.
“He’s been saying that consistently, but nothing confirmed and, obviously, there’s a lot on in terms of the US calendar as well, so too early yet to give any details around what might or might not happen.”
On his last visit to Ireland in 2023, Mr Trump was warmly welcomed to Doonbeg where locals waved American flags and some donned Make America Great Again caps.
But his last visit when he was in office in 2019 sparked protests from climate change, left-wing, pro-Palestine, pro-choice, anti-racism and anti-war activists, who flew the Trump baby blimp in Dublin.
