Nothing has officially kicked off the public rollout of Nothing OS 4.0, its latest update built on Android 16.
This release continues the visual identity introduced in OS 3.0 but with more refinement this time around, while pushing more applications and approaches with AI-powered creation.
Through a more intelligent framework that supports tools built through Essential Apps, Nothing is capable of enhancing how users interact with the interface day to day, while Live Updates now work across more Android apps as any app with Android 16’s Live Updates support can tap into the expanded Glyph Progress feature for real-time ride, delivery, and timer info directly on the lock screen and Glyph Interface.
On the other hand, Extra Dark Mode also gets a fresh coat of paint as deeper blacks, better contrast, and improved power efficiency extend across system UI elements and Nothing’s first-party apps, while the brand says interaction animations have been reworked so every touch, swipe, and gesture feels more tactile and responsive.
The update also rolls in subtle haptic feedback when you hit maximum or minimum volume, smoother open and close animations that scale the home screen for added depth, and improved notification interactions that carry a natural sense of movement and rebound.
Home screen personalisation sees a boost too, with new 1×1 and 2×1 widget sizes for Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time, while Pop-up View lets you run two floating apps at once and switch between them with simple gestures. Users can even hide icons from the App Drawer to keep layouts cleaner without losing quick access.
Phone (3) users get a few extras, including deeper Flip to Glyph controls, a more refined Pocket Mode, new Glyph Toys like Hourglass and Lunar Cycle, and an improved Glyph Mirror Selfie option that now saves the original photo separately.
Nothing OS 4.0 is rolling out first to Phone (3), with other Nothing and CMF devices set to follow soon.
