A Journey of Compassion, Commitment, and Change in the Malaysian Pet Industry

In a world where pets are cherished members of our families, providing them with the best care and nutrition is paramount. However, in Malaysia's pet food market, the options for high-quality, nutritious, and affordable pet food are often limited. Recognizing this gap, Ke Yee Yap, founder of Notti Pet Food, embarked on a mission to revolutionize the industry and make a difference in the lives of pets and pet owners across the country.

In an exclusive interview with Ke Yee Yap, we delve into the origins of Notti Pet Food, its commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership, and its vision for the future of animal welfare in Malaysia.

1. Can you provide an overview of Notti Pet Food and its objectives? What motivated you to establish this brand, and how does it aim to make a difference in the lives of pets and pet owners in Malaysia?

"As a pet lover, food scientist, and nutritionist, I founded Notti to address the gap in the Malaysian pet food market for high-quality, nutritious, and affordable options. Our mission is to provide pet owners with products that support the health and happiness of their pets, treating them as the valued family members they are. Driven by the unfortunate reality of low-quality ingredients in many commercial brands, Notti Pet Food aims to set a new standard. We're committed to making a difference by offering pet food that is not only safe and healthy but also accessible to all Malaysian pet owners. At Notti, we believe in enriching the lives of pets and their owners with superior nutrition, ensuring every pet has the opportunity to thrive."

2. As the founder of Notti Pet Food, what are your key initiatives aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership and addressing the challenges faced by stray animals in Malaysia? How do you envision these efforts contributing to the welfare of animals in your community?

"As a pet adopter of both a cat and a dog myself, I am acutely aware of the challenges facing animals in Malaysia, particularly the alarmingly high stray population. I am deeply committed to fostering responsible pet ownership and addressing the challenges faced by stray animals in Malaysia. Our approach encompasses several key initiatives designed to make a tangible impact on the welfare of animals in our community.

Firstly, we actively participate in educational campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of responsible pet ownership. This includes providing information on proper pet care, nutrition, and the long-term commitment required to care for a pet. By empowering pet owners with knowledge, we aim to ensure that pets lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

Secondly, Notti Pet Food collaborates with local animal shelters and rescue organizations like SPCA, woofmyroof and voice for paws to support the well-being of stray animals. We contribute by organizing adoption drive events to help these animals find loving homes, reducing the number of strays on the streets.

I envision these efforts collectively contributing to a more informed and compassionate community where pets are valued and cared for, and where the plight of stray animals is addressed with empathy and action. Our goal is to not only enhance the lives of pets and their owners through superior nutrition but also to play an active role in creating a society where every animal is treated with respect and kindness.

Through these initiatives, Notti Pet Food is dedicated to making a lasting difference in the welfare of animals in Malaysia, working towards a future where responsible pet ownership is the norm, and stray animals are given the care and support they need to thrive."

3. Tell us about your recent TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) awareness campaign during Spay Awareness Month. What inspired this initiative, and what impact do you hope to achieve in combating stray overpopulation and enhancing public knowledge about stray management?

"I started a campaign about TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) during Spay Awareness Month because I've seen too many stray animals and heard about them being treated badly. As a pet food brand, we wanted to help make things better.

We know it's tough for small groups to make a big change alone, but if everyone learns about TNR and helps out a bit, like taking a stray to get spayed, it can make a big difference. We hope more people will join in to help control the stray population and learn how to take care of strays better."

4. What role do adoption drives play in your work, and how do they contribute to your mission of supporting stray animals? Can you share any memorable experiences on why you want to start this?

"Adoption drives are crucial to our efforts. They help us find homes for stray animals, aligning with our goal to support strays. By getting strays adopted, we not only give these animals a second chance at life but also reduce the number of strays on the streets. This helps the community by making it safer and cleaner.

A memorable experience that deeply resonates with me involves a stray cat that used to visit my house when I was younger. She became my best friend, but at the time, I didn't understand the importance of spaying. Tragically, she died while giving birth. This heartbreaking event made me realize how different her life might have been if she had been spayed and lived a healthy life. It underscores the critical need for our work and the life-changing impact of adoption drives, not just for the animals but for the community as well. It's a poignant reminder of why we do what we do"

5. In your journey as the founder of Notti Pet Food, what challenges have you faced, and how have they shaped your approach to animal welfare and entrepreneurship? How do you navigate the complexities of the pet food industry while staying true to your values and mission?

"In my time with Notti Pet Food, the challenges have taught me a lot about balance—how to earn from our sales and also give back to the pet community. Our main goal is to help pets live healthier, safer lives, and to be loved by everyone.

These challenges have shaped how I see animal welfare and running a business. They remind me to always stick to our mission: making good pet food and doing good for pets everywhere. We make sure everything we do is right for pets and their owners, even when it's tough in the pet food industry.

We keep our values at the heart of everything, making sure pets are well cared for. This way, we face industry challenges without losing sight of what matters: the health and happiness of pets."

6. Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations for the future of Notti Pet Food and your advocacy for animal welfare in Malaysia? How do you see your brand evolving to make an even greater impact on the lives of pets and pet owners in the region?

"Looking forward, my goals for Notti Pet Food and our animal welfare advocacy are all about growth and impact. We aim to expand our reach, offering healthy, safe, and affordable pet food to more pet owners across Malaysia. By doing so, we want to ensure that every pet gets the chance to enjoy a nutritious diet that supports their well-being.

In terms of animal welfare, we're committed to increasing our support for initiatives that promote responsible pet ownership, spay/neuter programs, and the adoption of stray animals. We believe that by educating the community and supporting welfare projects, we can make a significant difference in reducing the stray population and improving animal welfare standards.

As for the future of Notti Pet Food, we envision evolving our product range to meet diverse nutritional needs, embracing sustainability, and innovating to offer solutions that make pet care easier and more accessible for everyone. We also plan to strengthen our community engagement, building a network of pet lovers who share our values and mission.

Ultimately, we see Notti Pet Food not just as a brand, but as a catalyst for positive change, enhancing the lives of pets and their owners throughout the region. We're excited about the journey ahead and the opportunity to make an even greater impact on animal welfare in Malaysia."

In a nation where pets are beloved companions, Notti Pet Food stands out as a beacon of compassion and commitment to their well-being.
