Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

17:14

And that’s the end of matchday one here at the City Ground, with some late drama giving the visitors Bournemouth a point against the run of play. The 1-1 scoreline will frustrate Forest, who dominated large spells of the contest today. The home side went into half-time with a 1-0 lead after striker Wood struck home inside the Cherries box. Bournemouth barely threatened the Forest goal, aside from a disallowed goal in the first half for offside, yet managed to record a higher xG of 1.56 compared to Forest’s xG of 1.12. You’d have to say that the xG may have been boosted by the visitors’ goal, which came from a great Christie delivery that ricocheted to the feet of Semenyo and the striker simply smashed the ball home from two yards out for a late and surprising equaliser. Forest finished the game with slightly more possession, recording 53% of the ball and ultimately not making the most of their stronghold in today’s contest. Both sides will fancy their chances to record their first three points next weekend, with Forest travelling down to Southampton and Bournemouth hosting Newcastle on matchday two. That’s all from us today, thanks for tuning in!

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

17:05

A great ball from Billing into the box and Murillo just gets there ahead of Jebbison to clear for a corner and stop what likely would have been the winner! The resulting corner is eventually booted away.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

17:04

Bournemouth will be the much happier side to come out with a point here, having rarely threatened the Forest defence. Nuno’s side are pushing for a late winner to reward the home fans for their continuous support throughout today’s match.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

Five minutes left for both sides to try and get a winner late on here. Can either side record three points today or are the spoils going to be shared?

Great play from Gibbs-White, skipping past a couple of midfielders and laying the ball off to Yates whose effort on goal is straight at Neto.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:54

With just over six minutes of regular time left, Bournemouth need a spark to get back into this game. Can Billing provide that spark? He replaces Cook.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:54

Andersen attempts to lay the ball into the path of Awoniyi but doesn’t quite get enough on it. The Forest striker would have surely been through on goal had the ball been a better one.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:51

Forest are keeping the ball under their spell and piling on the pressure for a potential second goal. Nuno Santo will be much the happier of the two managers with how the game is going thus far. Bournemouth are struggling to get out of their own half.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:48

Much of the action has been in Bournemouth’s third in the last 15 minutes – just over 42% in fact – which doesn’t bode well if the visitors want to get back into this game…

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:47

Neto comes out an awfully long way to intercept a ball into his half. The Cherries push for the equaliser but Tavernier’s header clears the Forest goal.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:45

Boly concedes a corner which is played out to Cook on the edge of the box. The midfielder swings in a great ball into the corridor of uncertainty but it can only go behind for a goal-kick.

Semenyo finally injecting some pace into the game, skipping past Williams and driving into the Forest box. Boly uses his big presence just to ease the Cherries attacker off the ball and Semenyo stumbles as the ball trickles out for a goal-kick.

Dominguez thought he was clear through on goal but for some really good defending from Zabarnyi inside his box to usher the ball out for a corner. The resulting corner from Forest is met with a great header from Boly and Neto makes a good save to parry it behind for yet another corner.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:28

Tavernier attempts to curl an effort with his left foot, just outside the box, but Sels has it covered and lets it go out for a goal-kick.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:26

Despite his goal, Wood seems a little frustrated. His link-up play hasn’t been up to scratch and he’s the latest player to give away a foul in a scrappy start to the second half.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:25

Williams is lucky to get away with not receiving a second yellow there. He’s late in his tackle but the referee doesn’t spot the players’ error and instead deems it a far challenge, giving Bournemouth a corner.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:23

Elanga is the second player to be substituted in a double swap for Forest. Domínguez is on in his place and will look to make an impact in the remaining 30+ minutes.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:23

That’s the last we’ll see of Aina, who’s picked up a niggle and is replaced by Toffolo.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:22

Aina seems to have twisted his ankle here and is down receiving some treatment. Forest might be preparing a swap here.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:21

Smith ushers the ball out of play and seems to have caught Elanga in the face in the midst of the challenge. Play resumes…

Forest get us underway in the second half!

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:10

The home fans will be looking for more of the same from their Forest side, whilst the Cherries really need to control play in the middle of the park if they are to get back into this game. Live win probability favours Forest and has them at a 67.7 percent chance to win the contest, with Bournemouth’s chances at a win at just 10.6 percent. Let’s see who can get the first points of the season on board today…

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:09

We head into half-time at the City Ground with the home side 1-0 up after a real poacher’s goal from Chris Wood. Substitute Yates, who came on for Danilo after what looks like a potential season-ending injury for the Brazilian, took a shot on goal which was followed up well by his striker and expertly placed into the corner. Bournemouth have struggled to impact the game very much, despite an offside goal after a neat set-piece straight from the training ground, and have recorded just 0.72 xG in contrast to Forest’s xG of 0.93. Forest have also kept the ball the much better out of the two sides which is exemplified by their 58 percent possession in the first half.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

16:01

HALF-TIME: NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1-0 BOURNEMOUTH

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:59

Tavernier with a decent looking freekick on target but his strike doesn’t quite have the power behind it to trouble Sels, who can comfortably catch and claim the ball.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:58

Yellow Card Lewis John Cook

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:57

Forest almost make it 2-0 before Bournemouth run up the other end to almost equalise! Hudson-Odoi plays a neat give and go and hits a low effort towards goal, with Neto diving down well to save. The ball is then cleared up towards Ouattara who faces Sels in the box but can’t get a clear shot on goal.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:54

This time Tavernier’s freekick is overhit and goes straight out for a Forest goal kick. Bournemouth are running out of time to equalise before half-time…

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:52

Tavernier swings in a great freekick into the Forest box and Huijsen meets it with a clean strike which goes straight at Sels. The flag is up anyway for offside against the defender, who otherwise was close to a debut goal.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:50

Semenyo with Bournemouth’s first real effort on goal, and basically all self-made. The ball fell to him towards the right side of the Forest box. The Cherries striker dropped his shoulder and hit an effort with his left foot just wide of the Forest goal. Much better from the Bournemouth striker, who has been marked out of this game so far.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:48

A chunky 11 minutes added on here after the early treatment to the injured Danilo

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:47

Smith reads a ball into Hudson-Odoi’s feet well and wins his side a freekick after a late challenge from Aina.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:45

Williams with a strike from the right hand side of the box which only narrowly flies over Neto’s goal. Forest looking the more likely to get on the scoresheet next.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:43

Some tidy defending from Forest and Hudson-Odoi plays the ball forward towards the Cherries box. It eventually comes to Gibbs-White but his cross into the box is well cleared. Bournemouth are struggling to get a hold of possession so far, with Forest dominating 62% of the play so far. Bournemouth are also yet to take a shot on goal with over 40 minutes played here.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:41

Forest are looking to go into the second half with a lead. Yates comes in with a forceful challenge and Bournemouth have a freekick in their half.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:38

GOAL RULED OUT! Cook is deemed to have been leaning offside in the build-up to the goal and Forest get away with some lacklustre marking thanks to VAR. It remains 1-0 to the home team.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:38

GOOALLL!! Ouattara equalises for the Cherries and it’s 1-1 with a set-piece straight from the training ground! Sinisterra twists and turns at the edge of the box before eventually hitting a strike towards goal. It’s deflected out for a corner which is taken short and played low into the box. The ball falls to Ouattara and he smashes it into the top corner. But wait, VAR are checking it for a potential offside…

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:34

Goal Dango Aboubacar Faissal Ouattara

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:33

Yates again driving forward with the ball and Forest are doing really well to minimise any potential threat from Bournemouth by keeping the ball under their spell. The pitch opens up for Elanga who strikes from 25 yards but Neto matches the strike with a good save.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:30

Forest sustaining pressure in the visitors’ half. Aina is urged to shoot by the fans but his effort flies clear of goal.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

Gibbs-White plays an early, deep cross into the Cherries box and Neto doesn’t look comfortable in his palm away. The ball comes in again and is cleared by Bournemouth.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:24

Sangare with a ball out wide to Williams. Kerkez is there first to intercept the pass with a good tackle. Throw-in for Forest in what has been a cagey affair so far.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:24

Gibbs-White with the first effort on goal for the home side. His strike from almost 30 yards is an optimistic one, and the ball clears well over Neto’s goal.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:20

Tavernier with a lovely touch just inside the Forest half. He wins a freekick for his Bournemouth side which is taken quickly but the ball is eventually cleared for a goal kick.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:18

Ryan Yates comes on for a straight swap for the injured Danilo in sad and unforeseen circumstances.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:16

A round of applause from every fan, home and away, in the City Ground for Danilo who is now being stretchered off the pitch.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:14

Fortunately, Semenyo comes out damage free from the clash. For the home side however, Danilo is being treated on the pitch with security holding Forest flags to cover the players’ treatment by his physios. It looked a real nasty landing, and thoughts go out to the Forest midfielder whose season may be over before it even had chance to begin.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:13

Referee Michael Oliver frantically calling for assistance here, as Danilo and Semenyo clash in the middle of the park. A stretcher seems to be out for Danilo who appears to land awkwardly and has potentially got a nasty injury early on into the season.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:08

A late challenge from Sangare near the Forest box but Bournemouth use the advantage played to take a shot on goal and win a corner from the deflection. The corner comes to nothing…

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

15:03

Bournemouth get us underway here!

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

14:58

Players are getting ready to step out onto the City Ground…

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

14:50

Andoni Iraola is of course without last season’s talisman for Bournemouth, with Dominic Solanke moving on to Tottenham Hotspur. Solanke scored a hat-trick in this exact fixture last season and has four goals in two Premier League appearances at the City Ground overall. Bournemouth will instead be leading the line with Semenyo as their main striker in today’s game.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

14:50

Since their return to the Premier League in 2022, Morgan Gibbs-White has been involved in more Premier League goals than any other Nottingham Forest player (28 – 10 goals, 18 assists). His 18 assists in this time are twice as many as any other Forest player, and Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking for more attacking magic from his star player today.

When the two sides last met in Premier League action, they played out a 1-1 draw at Vitality Stadium in 2023/24. And the theme around draws doesn’t stop there - this will be the second time Bournemouth have faced Forest in their opening league match of a season, following a 0-0 draw at the City Ground in League One in 2007-08. Let’s hope for more goalmouth action in today’s league opener which may well come from the visitors, as Bournemouth have only failed to score in three of their last 30 Premier League games.

Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth

14:40

Bournemouth begin the new Premier League season with a clash against relegation candidates Nottingham Forest, who look to end a pretty rotten curse when it comes to facing Bournemouth. The visitors have gotten the better of Nottingham Forest of late, unbeaten in their last eight Premier League matches (W5 D3 L0). Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, does carry a strong record in season openers though - he hasn’t lost on MD1 in any of his last 11 league campaigns (W7 D4), taking into account time in Portugal, Spain, England and Saudi Arabia.
