Kuala Lumpur: The High Court will decide on Nov 6 whether to allow a bid by prosecutors to amend three of the 25 charges faced by former prime minister Najib Razak in his 1MDB trial.

Trial judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah said this today after the court was told that the defence needed time to review the evidence recorded from several witnesses relating to the charges.

The prosecution is seeking to amend one abuse of power and two money laundering charges.

It wants to amend the quantum of gratification stated in the fourth abuse of power charge faced by Najib from RM49.9 million to RM45.8 million.

Lawyer Shafee Abdullah said the defence team will prepare a summary of the testimony of each witness which will be extended to the court.

The defence is objecting to the amendments, citing serious implications to its case.

Deputy public prosecutor Kamal Bahrin Omar told the court the prosecution will reply, if necessary.

Najib is standing trial on 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering of alleged 1MDB funds totalling RM2.28 billion deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
