KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has given the party’s commitment to strengthen its ties with fellow components in Perikatan Nasional (PN) and not have any cooperation with its former coalition, Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“In relation to media reports on cooperation between Bersatu and PH, Bersatu has made a decision to not have cooperation with PH in facing the 15th general election (GE15).
“Bersatu also takes note of the stand of the PH presidential council in deciding to not have cooperation with Bersatu,” he said in a statement today.
This comes after the PAS central working committee came to a decision last Thursday to continue strengthening its cooperation within PN for GE15.
Hadi said the decision to continue with PN was based on the principle of unifying the ummah (Muslim fraternity).
Muhyiddin said that besides Bersatu and PAS – in which both are Muslim-based – the other parties in PN are Gerakan SAPP and Sabah Star, all three of which are multi-racial and multi-religious.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang explained yesterday that it will not cooperate with Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN), alleging that there is now “cloudiness” in the coalition due to unresolved bribery cases and greed for power among its leaders.
“Bribe recipients are still in BN, and then they are careless about implementing (Islamic beliefs),” he said.
He added that the “murky waters” in BN are worsened by the “impatient and power-hungry attitude” employed by figures from the coalition, leading to PAS being unwilling to keep working with it.
Muhyiddin today added that Bersatu will place its focus on working with PAS, Gerakan, SAPP, and Sabah Star in a “multi-racial political alliance” that aspires to offer a corruption-free leadership and is efficient and concerned for the prosperity of the people.
“In line with the principle of democracy and citizens’ freedom to choose, Bersatu is ready to face multi-cornered contests in GE15 that involve PN, BN, PH and other political parties that will be vying,” he said. – The Vibes, October 15, 2022
