Kota Kinabalu: The demand by former Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman for Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) head Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar to retract a statement and issue a public apology or face a RM100m suit has taken a new turn.

Zulkarnain, instead, said the Parti Warisan Information Chief has seven days to make an open apology or be sued for RM150 million.

G57 had, initially, lodged a police report on Thursday (4 Jan) to investigate alleged links and funding received by a Sabah political party from a recently crippled drug cartel headed by a local Datu.

Zulkarnain said he never mentioned Azis Jamman in his report nor slandered anyone throughout his 30 years as a political activist.

I was simply bringing information received to police attention.

“An anonymous individual claimed that a party was funded by the drug cartel during the 15th and 16th General Elections. I was also told that the party’s Sepanggar office is owned by the same cartel.

“Upon receiving that information, I lodged a police report to request a thorough investigation into the matter. I clearly stated that only the police have the authority to determine if the information I received is true or otherwise,” Zulkarnain said in a statement.

He said a letter of demand would be sent to Azis and another police report would be lodged against him for slander besides continuing a legal suit of the same nature from Dec 2017.

Zulkarnain said he is confident of facing Azis in court and be able to determine who is right.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Registry of Societies and Attorney General’s Chambers should be taking action on the party concerned, including revoking the registration,” he said.
