THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has directed its regional offices nationwide to coordinate with government agencies, emergency responders and telecommunications providers to support public assistance operations during from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
Under a memorandum, all NTC regional directors were instructed to coordinate with local government units, law enforcement agencies, disaster risk reduction and management offices, emergency response units and other concerned authorities in their respective areas.
The regional offices were also directed to monitor civic action groups and amateur radio groups participating in public service operations for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
They must keep track of the groups' assigned routes, personnel locations, assistance posts and radio base station sites throughout the observance.
The NTC will also coordinate with telecommunications service providers, as necessary, to address reported service concerns and help maintain reliable communications, particularly in areas expected to experience increased public activity and mobile network traffic.
The commission advised the public to follow safety advisories, take note of local emergency numbers, keep mobile phones fully charged and maintain contact with family members.
It also urged the public to use available communication channels responsibly, particularly when seeking emergency assistance.
