A dedicated Cyber Crime Task Force set up by the Nuh Police has begun showing tangible results, with active alerts generated on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) Pratibimb Portal falling by 52.9% in June compared to March. The decline marks a significant step in the district’s efforts to shake off its reputation as one of the country’s major cybercrime hotspots.
The task force was constituted after Dr Arpit Jain took charge as Superintendent of Police on April 6. Working under the supervision of Additional SP Shashi Shekhar, the specialised unit monitors every alert generated through the Pratibimb Portal, which identifies the locations of suspected cyber criminals. Each alert is followed up through prompt verification, intelligence-based field operations and sustained action to disrupt cybercrime networks.
The initiative is particularly significant as Nuh Police have identified 58 villages in the district as cybercrime hotspots, many of which have repeatedly surfaced during investigations into organised online frauds operating across the country. Police said the task force was created to systematically dismantle these networks and remove the district’s cybercrime hotspot tag.
Data released by the police shows a steady month-on-month decline in active Pratibimb alerts. Alerts fell by 21.6% in April, 24.8% in May and another 20.2% in June (up to June 27) compared to the previous month. Overall, active alerts in June were 52.9% lower than in March, indicating a substantial disruption of cybercriminal activity.
The Pratibimb Portal generates location-based alerts on suspected cyber criminals, enabling police to proactively track and verify their presence before further offences are committed.
The intensified drive has also led to stronger enforcement. Comparing April-June with the January-March period, police registered an 82.69% increase in FIRs, 56.41% rise in arrests, seized 137.8% more SIM cards and recovered 139.68% more mobile phones from suspected cyber criminals.
Officials said the district’s policing strategy has shifted from responding to cyber fraud complaints to proactively identifying offenders, tracking their digital footprints and dismantling organised cybercrime syndicates through intelligence-led and technology-driven policing.
