Nurse among five held over sale of fake medical certificates

PEKAN, June 16 - Five individuals, including a nurse, have been remanded for between three and four days from today to assist in investigations into the sale and purchase of fake medical certificates (MCs).

The remand order against the suspects, aged between 33 and 55, was issued by Magistrate Melody Woon Sze Mun at the Magistrate's Court here to facilitate investigations under Sections 420 and 468 of the Penal Code.

Pekan police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the suspects were arrested in an operation conducted in Kampung Marhum and Kampung Kuala Pahang between 3 pm and 10 pm yesterday.

Yesterday, Mohd Zaidi said preliminary investigations found that the fake MCs were sold for between RM50 and RM200 each.

He said the activity was believed to have been carried out in an organised manner involving individuals who acted as middlemen to source customers and manage the sale of the medical certificates.
