- An independent review into maternity and neonatal services at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is holding its first meeting with affected families on 5 September.
- Led by senior midwife and investigator Donna Ockenden, the opt-out review is expected to examine more than 1,000 cases dating back to 2018.
- Campaigner and former neonatal nursery nurse Beth Cooper, whose baby son Felix died in December 2022 after her concerns were dismissed, urged other affected parents to speak out to help improve future care.
- Donna Ockenden said that families are central to shaping the review's Terms of Reference and that the probe will look into cases involving severe harm or missing records.
- UHSussex Chief Executive Dr Andy Heeps welcomed the review, expressing condolences and promising full cooperation to improve patient safety.
