Nurse to be struck off after ‘consistent pattern’ of saying antisemitic comments

  • A nurse, Helen Oluyemisi Balogun, is expected to be struck off the register after a tribunal found she made "very serious" antisemitic remarks about Jewish patients.
  • The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) tribunal concluded that Ms Balogun showed a "consistent theme and pattern" of attempting to minimise her antisemitic comments.
  • She was found to have referred to Jewish patients as "tight with money" and made comments about Jewish people not believing in Jesus, which created an intimidating environment for a colleague.
  • Ms Balogun also used the term "half-caste" to describe a patient's partner, which the panel deemed "offensively discriminating".
  • Despite her representative stating she showed "sincere remorse", the panel found her conduct "went far beyond what the public would expect from a registered nurse", leading to an interim suspension and pending removal from the register.
