Nurul Izzah denies lodging complaint against influencer over background check post

NURUL IZZAH Anwar has denied lodging any complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regarding a viral Facebook post by social media influencer Aliff Ahmad, who had offered to conduct a detailed background check on her using the 'Scrut Analytica' platform.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president also criticised the decision to investigate the influencer simply for making the offer, emphasising the importance of protecting individual rights within legal boundaries.

“It is important for everyone to be cautious when making allegations that could tarnish reputations and undermine the credibility of any party without solid grounds,” she said in a Facebook post on Friday.

“I do not know or have ever met him (Aliff). I am also not certain how he earns a living, but certainly, we should support any initiative that adheres to legal guidelines.”

Earlier this week, media reports revealed that SKMM had summoned Aliff Ahmad after he posted an offer on Facebook to investigate Nurul Izzah’s employment history and sources of income—provided the post received 20,000 shares.

Following the post’s circulation, Aliff was issued a formal notice to appear at the SKMM headquarters in Cyberjaya at 8pm on Thursday. However, he publicly refused to comply, demanding that authorities instead seek a court-issued warrant for his arrest.

The incident has since sparked debate online about freedom of speech, privacy, and the limits of public scrutiny of political figures. - April 25, 2025
