As the contest for the number two post in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) reaches its climax, Nurul Izzah Anwar has reiterated that no matter the result, the bond of friendship with her rival candidate, Rafizi Ramli, will remain intact. She reflected on a personal message shared by Rafizi, expressing that their friendship would endure beyond political competition.
Nurul Izzah, a prominent figure in PKR and former Permatang Pauh MP, shared her intention to preserve the spirit of unity, even as both leaders compete for the deputy president position in the party's 2025–2027 term leadership election. She expressed hope that, regardless of the outcome, cooperation between them would continue to strengthen the party.
The competition between Nurul Izzah and Rafizi has attracted national attention, with the party election taking place this Friday. Rafizi, currently serving as the Minister of Economy, had earlier voiced concerns during his Jelajah Hiruknya campaign series about perceived flaws in party leadership selection and claimed efforts to unseat him by factions within the party.
Nurul Izzah, meanwhile, maintained a more reserved stance during her grassroots-focused campaign, Jelajah Damai. She distanced herself from accusations of nepotism and refrained from responding aggressively to political attacks. She also addressed criticism aimed at her for losing the Permatang Pauh seat, emphasizing that both she and Rafizi bring different electoral strengths to PKR. While Rafizi has consistently won in Chinese-majority urban constituencies, she has had success in Malay-majority areas, reflecting the broad appeal both figures offer the party.
Looking ahead, Nurul Izzah stressed the need for decisive leadership to prevent further electoral setbacks and called for unity built on mutual respect and shared purpose. She argued that internal rivalries should not distract from the party’s broader mission—to represent and serve all Malaysians, regardless of race or background.
In her outreach, Nurul Izzah pledged continued commitment to listening to the struggles faced by diverse communities, especially gig workers, single parents, and the economically vulnerable. She reiterated that her motivation has never been rooted in ambition for power, but rather in the impact meaningful reforms can bring to ordinary lives.
Regardless of Friday’s outcome, she affirmed that her journey with the people would continue, and that reconnecting with the grassroots will remain her priority as PKR looks ahead to the next general election.
