Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says there was no chance of easing off from their 8-0 thrashing of Watford.

City were 5-0 up inside 18 minutes against Watford and looked on course to break Manchester United's Premier League record 9-0 win against Ipswich in 1995.

Instead they recorded their highest league win under Guardiola, with Bernardo Silva secured a hat-trick and David Silva, Sergio Aguero Riyad Mahrez, Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin de Bruyne also on the score sheet.

Guardiola claims his side showed Watford the ultimate respect by going in search of more goals.

One of the things I like the most, the second half at 5-0, the team could think of themselves and not do what you have to defensively. But it was completely the opposite.

We were more aggressive in our high pressing. That is why the second half is more than decent, we score more goals and we play good.

The best way to humiliate the players is to do stupid things and play for themselves, make some fashion movements and that is the worst way to do that.

We play for the spectators, who come here to watch the game.

I would not like to see my team in the second half not run much because we are winning 5-0. That is a lack of respect for our opponents."
