Off-duty police officer charged after boy, 16, died in crash

An off-duty police officer has been charged with causing the death of a teenage boy in a crash by dangerous driving.

Nottinghamshire Police said Ryley Hutson, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene after an incident involving an electric bike and two cars.

Emergency services were called to Chilwell Lane in Bramcote, Nottinghamshire, at around 10am on Sunday, 28 September last year.

The force said Daniel Cartwright, 31, who is a serving police officer with Bedfordshire Police and was off-duty at the time of the collision, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Cartwright, of Kettering, Northamptonshire, is expected to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 6 August.

Detective Inspector Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident which has had a devastating impact on Ryley’s family.

“They have been updated about this important step in our investigation, and our thoughts remain with them.”
