MANILA, Philippines — Actress Bea Alonzo and businessman Vincent Co have reportedly tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in Makati City, according to talent manager and showbiz commentator Ogie Diaz, months after reports that the couple's supposed wedding in Spain had been called off.
Diaz said the ceremony took place at 7 p.m. on July 13 at the Makati City Hall and was attended by only a handful of witnesses.
In a Facebook video posted Tuesday, Diaz opened by congratulating the couple before revealing what he said were details of the intimate ceremony.
"Congratulations Bea Alonzo and Vincent Co. Finally! Finally, they got married sa Makati noong July 13 at 7 p.m." ("Congratulations, Bea Alonzo and Vincent Co. Finally! They got married in Makati on July 13 at 7 p.m."), Diaz said.
He added that only a few people witnessed the wedding.
"Ang nakawitness lamang ng kanilang kasal daw ay ang mga may-ari ng Secosana Bags, kung saan may brand si Bea, ang Bash Bags... Wala masyadong tao. Sila lang doon sa Makati City Hall." ("I was told that the only witnesses to their wedding were the owners of Secosana Bags, where Bea has her Bash Bags brand. There weren't many people. It was just them at the Makati City Hall"), he said.
According to Diaz, he later received a photograph from the ceremony along with what he described as a copy of the couple's Certificate of Marriage, leading him to believe the wedding had indeed taken place.
"Meron ngang nagpadala sa akin ng litrato... Confirmed nga, sabi ko. Meron din silang Certificate of Marriage. Ay oo nga. Sila na." ("Someone even sent me a photo... I said, 'It's confirmed.' They also have a Certificate of Marriage. Yes, it's true. They're now husband and wife."), Diaz said.
The reported wedding comes after months of speculation surrounding the couple's relationship. Earlier reports claimed that Alonzo and Co had called off their supposed wedding in Spain, which was rumored to have been scheduled in May.
Diaz described the intimate ceremony as a fitting way for the couple to begin married life away from public attention.
"Finally, natupad din ang pangarap ni Bea na unang makasal... Maganda rin 'yung tahimik." ("Finally, Bea's dream of getting married first has come true... It's also nice that they kept it quiet."), he said.
He also addressed speculation surrounding a prenuptial agreement, saying he had been told one existed but insisting it was never a major issue between the couple.
"Yes, meron prenup daw... pero napakaliit na bagay para sa prenup. Kasi kay Bea, wala sigurong issue 'yan." ("Yes, I was told there was a prenuptial agreement... but it was such a minor matter. I don't think it was ever an issue for Bea"), Diaz said.
Diaz likewise brushed aside online discussions comparing the financial standing of the actress and the businessman.
"Pagdating naman sa puso, wala 'yan. Pagdating naman sa pag-ibig, hindi issue ang pera o hindi issue kung gaano kayaman si lalaki sa babae." ("When it comes to the heart, none of that matters. When it comes to love, money isn't an issue, nor is whether the man is wealthier than the woman."), he said.
Although he acknowledged having disagreements with Alonzo in the past, Diaz said he was genuinely happy for the newlyweds.
"Kahit may issue kami ni Bea... sobra akong happy for Bea. At ganoon din kay Vincent." ("Even though Bea and I have had our issues... I'm truly happy for Bea. And I'm just as happy for Vincent."), he said before extending his congratulations and best wishes to the couple.
As of posting time, neither Alonzo nor Co has publicly confirmed or denied Diaz's claims. The couple has also yet to issue a statement regarding the reported civil wedding or the earlier reports that their supposed wedding in Spain had been called off.
