Kota Kinabalu: Over 300 delegates are expected to attend the 10th edition of the Sabah Oil, Gas and Energy Conference and Exhibition (SOGCE) to be held on Jun 8-9, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

The delegates are from Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the Netherlands, the UAE and more.

SOGCE is organised by Midas Events Management (MEM), a business entity of Falconet Resources Sdn Bhd, a Sabah company and co-organised by Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC), a government-linked company (GLC) under direct purview of the State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry (MIDE).

Organising Chairperson MEM/Falconet Resources Sdn Bhd Director Dolly Jimayol said SOGCE had benefited some 2,000 conference delegates the last nine years of SOGCE with close to 19,000 local and international visitors.

“SOGCE, though a smaller scale as compared to big oil and gas event in the Federal capital, has given such intense awareness about this industry, provided up-to-date information and showcased latest technologies to not only oil, gas and energy fraternities but also to the public, policy makers, academicians, entrepreneurs, NGOs and students,” she said during a courtesy call on Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Abidin Madingkir to invite Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to officiate the opening.

Also at hand was Co-organising Chairperson SOGDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Harun Ismail.

In the coming 10th SOGCE, Dolly said, they continue to provide up-to-date information, trends, outlook and opportunities about the industry, in line with the theme “Energy Security and Sustainability in Oil, Gas and Energy Industry in Sabah”.

“The interest in this industry is seen to have grown exponentially as compared to the last 10 years, witnessed by the growing number of participants, both locally and internationally.

“This is rightly so, because oil, gas and energy industry in Sabah continues to be a significant contributor to the state’s economic growth. Over the years, it has contributed significantly to Sabah’s GDP.

“We see this industry has a lot of potential to be explored further hence SOGCE continues to play the key role in providing such platform for discussions by experts of the industry together with policy makers on the way forward in tapping the right resources for growth.”

The speakers for this SOGCE are a combination of local and International professionals led by Petronas Malaysia Petroleum Management Senior Vice President Ir Firouz Asnan who will deliver his keynote address.

Sabah Energy Corporation and Asian Supply Base are joint Platinum sponsors and Sea Hibiscus as bronze sponsor, while Eternity Mode Sdn Bhd and Secov Engineering Sdn Bhd are sponsors for lanyards and conference bags, respectively.

Dolly said they would also continue to feature programme for young professionals called the NextGen Energy Leader (NGEL) organised by the SPE KLS.

“The ethos of the NextGen Energy Leader Programme is to tap into the existing knowledge, skills, and experience of senior or high performing professionals and transfer these skills to newer or less experienced professionals to advance their careers in a semi-formal sit-down setting.

“The programme is oriented towards energy professionals under the age of 36 or with fewer than 10 years of working experience, also referred to as young professionals (YPs) in this context.

“In addition, it will provide YPs with an opportunity to network with seasoned professionals, learn about current industry challenges and opportunities and get insights into navigating the landscape,” she said.
