TAWAU: Two men suspected of stealing 52 oil palm fruit bunches from a plantation in Kalabakan were arrested after members of the public apprehended and handed them over to police on Saturday evening.
Tawau district police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the suspects, aged 31 and 44, were detained by a team from the Kalabakan police station at about 5.45pm.
He said the arrests followed a police report lodged over the incident on the same day.
“Police also seized 52 oil palm fruit bunches, a 4WD vehicle and a Toyota car key to assist in the investigation.
“The case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, subject to confirmation by the investigating officer,” he said here on Sunday.
Rosdi said the theft of agricultural produce was a serious offence that should not be taken lightly.
He also urged anyone with information on criminal incidents to channel it to the nearest police station to assist investigations and curb crime in Tawau.
