KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia can continue to attract foreign investments despite the current global supply crisis due to the country’s resilience and energy security, said Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
Zafrul, who is Senior Political Adviser to the Prime Minister, said the crisis stemming from oil supply shortages due to the US-Israel war on Iran, presented Malaysia the opportunity to further strengthen its position as a safe investment destination.
“This is an opportunity. In every crisis, there are opportunities we must examine. Malaysia’s economy and investment ecosystem have weathered many crises, and we continue to maintain sound policy frameworks.
“This will, to some extent, boost investor confidence,” the former minister of investment, trade and industry said.
“Malaysia has also demonstrated its strength in energy stability, reliability and resilience,” he added, noting that energy security is a key consideration for companies and investors when making investment decisions.
Tengku Zafrul was speaking to reporters after a contribution handover ceremony under the Bakul Rahmah Programme, organised by Yayasan Tengku Zafrul Aziz in collaboration with the Teratai state assemblyman’s office, here today, Bernama reports.
He said Malaysia must continue positioning itself as a stable and safe investment destination.
“This is another reason why many investors view Malaysia as a country that can be considered a safe investment destination,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week noted that Malaysia is the only country in the region currently not implementing fuel rationing.
Malaysia’s pricing of RON95 fuel is still one of the lowest in the world, he said, while although the price of diesel is high, the government has provided assistance to segments that need aid such as farmers, fishermen and school bus drivers.
Previously, Anwar said Malaysia’s domestic fuel supply is secure until June, despite regional disruptions.
Putrajaya has reportedly begun seeking alternative supply sources and diversification of the energy supply chain, while imposing energy-saving initiatives such as flexible work arrangements for civil servants.
Malaysia is also using diplomacy by negotiating with Iran to ensure safe passage for fuel tankers through the blockaded Strait of Hormuz. — April 26, 2026
