Old bomb discovered in Selangor Canal, safely destroyed

AN old but still active bomb was discovered in the Ban Canal, Tali Air 7, Sungai Leman, yesterday morning, prompting a swift response from authorities and the bomb disposal unit.

Sabak Bernam District Police Chief, Superintendent Md Yusof Ahmad, said the explosive was found by a 33-year-old Indonesian worker during river-cleaning operations at around 7am.

“The complainant lodged a report at the Sekinchan Police Station, and the Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) from the Selangor Police Headquarters was immediately contacted for further action,” he said when reached for comment.

Investigations revealed that the site belongs to the Selangor Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS). According to Md Yusof, “The area is unfenced, situated beside a drainage canal, and not under CCTV surveillance.”

A security perimeter was established to prevent public access, and no injuries or property damage occurred.

At approximately 12 noon, the UPB team successfully neutralised the explosive using an electric detonation technique.

Earlier, videos circulating on social media showed police cordoning off the scene following the discovery of the old bomb. - July 23, 2025
