- The gunman who opened fire in a classroom at Old Dominion University in a suspected terror attack had been released from prison early after being sentenced to 11 years for helping ISIS.
- Mohamed Bailor Jalloh yelled “Allahu akbar” before killing one person and wounding two others at the university in Virginia. Jalloh, a former Army National Guard member, pleaded guilty in 2016 to attempting to aid the Islamic State extremist group.
- He was released from prison 2 1/2 years early after completing a drug treatment program, a source told The Associated Press.
- It also emerged Friday that the Justice Department charged a man accused of selling Jalloh a gun despite him not being eligible to own one because of his terrorism conviction.
- Kenya Chapman told agents he had no idea Jalloh would commit the attack, and that Jalloh told him he needed the weapon for protection. Chapman is charged with making a false statement during a firearm purchase and engaging in the business of firearms dealing without a license.
