KUALA LUMPUR — Khazanah Nasional Berhad has officially reopened the Old General Post Office (PPBL) at Block 2 of the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad Complex, transforming the historic site into a new cultural and culinary attraction in the capital.
The reopening marks the third heritage conservation effort under Khazanah’s Kuala Lumpur Heritage (Warisan KL) initiative, following earlier restorations of Block 1 of the Sultan Abdul Samad Complex and Seri Negara, Bernama reported.
Khazanah managing director Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir said the project goes beyond preservation, focusing on reactivating heritage spaces as living parts of the city.
“Through the conservation of heritage assets, we hope to encourage more Malaysians and international tourists to explore the city, thereby supporting local economic activities, strengthening the nation’s cultural identity, and boosting the tourism ecosystem as well as the urban economy.
“Drawing from Malaysia’s diverse culinary traditions, including elements recognised as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, PPBL demonstrates how heritage can remain relevant, inclusive and sustainable for present and future generations,” he said.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.
Khazanah said the revitalised PPBL, once the city’s main post office, now operates as a heritage-inspired food and cultural space featuring eight local brands, designed to promote community engagement alongside culinary experiences.
In conjunction with the launch, Khazanah introduced the “Warkah Untuk Malaysia” campaign, running from May 23 to July 31, inviting Malaysians to share hopes and aspirations for the nation through handwritten postcards or digital submissions.
Dedicated writing spaces have been set up at selected venues, including PPBL, while online participation is also encouraged.
Selected submissions will be compiled into a video presentation to be released in conjunction with National Month and Malaysia Day celebrations from August 31 to September 16, 2026.
