LABUAN: Parti Bangsa Malaysia and sole woman candidate Dayang Rusimah @ Raynie Datuk Din said the island needed a new “workable and realistic blueprint” to expedite the pace of development and uplift its status as it was clear that old methods were not producing results.
“PBS should be given a chance to make the changes than relaying on the same party which for the past 38 years had failed to bring Labuan on par with other Federal Territories like Kuala Lumpur and Putra Jaya,” said Rusimah.
She recalled that when the island was federalised, the was that labuan would be transformed into mini Hong Kong for Singapore. But this has not happened.
She said one reason was that issues highlited by locals were often ignored.
She also noted that by comparison when labuan was under Sabah admisteration and during Tan Sri Harris Salleh rule the island saw better times.
As a Federal Territory not one major industry had been set up except.
On another note Rusimah also said women here who had contributed were sidelined during State awards and went to those politically connected.
She urged all women voters not ti miss the opportunity to make the changes and their voting rights.
“My estimate is that about 50pc of the voters here are women based on the statistics published by Sinar Premium Portal.”
