Ombudsman orders Cayetano, Padilla, Senate sergeant-at-arms to answer obstruction of justice complaint

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Robinhood Ferdinand Padilla, as well as former acting Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca to answer the complaint filed against them for alleged obstruction of justice.

The Ombudsman gave the a three senators a non-extendible period of 15 days from receipt of its order within which to submit their counter-affidavits.

"If the respondents do not file their counter-affidavits within the reglementary period despite due notice, or cannot be served with or refuses to receive this order to file counter-affidavit, the complaint shall be deemed submitted for resolution and no further pleadings or documents shall be entertained," it said.

The complaint was filed earlier this month by Francis Joseph Aquino Dee et al. in connection with the "escape" of Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.
