On-duty police officer who shoved and swore at teenage boy is spared jail

  • Pc Daniel Rusling, a Wiltshire Police officer, shoved and swore at a 13-year-old boy in school uniform in Chippenham in October 2025, after the boy asked for a lift home.
  • Bodycam footage captured Pc Rusling telling the boy to 'get the f*** out of the way' and 'keep f***ing walking' while dragging him by his jumper.
  • The incident occurred after the teenager, who was part of a group of six children, had called 999 reporting threats from people in a car.
  • The Independent Office for Police Conduct stated that Pc Rusling failed to de-escalate the situation, despite the boy indicating he was missing and requesting assistance.
  • Pc Rusling admitted one count of assault by beating in May and was sentenced on Tuesday (30 June) to an eight-week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, and 150 hours of unpaid work.
