One child dead, one hospitalised after being hit by car

KOTA KINABALU: Police are investigating a fatal road accident involving two young girls on Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, near Teluk Likas, on Monday morning.

The crash, which occurred at about 9.45am, involved a Perodua Axia driven by a 55-year-old local man who struck the girls, aged 12 and 7, while they were crossing the road.

City police chief ACP Kasim Muda confirmed that one child died at the scene while the other sustained head injuries and is being treated at Likas Hospital in stable condition.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and police are appealing for witnesses while reminding the public to prioritise child safety on busy roads.
