One dead, another missing as boat sinks in Semporna

SEMPORNA: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted for a seven-year-old boy reported missing after the boat he was in with three others sank in Pulau Nusa Tengah, here, Friday.

A State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said two of the four were found safe, while another seven-year-old boy was found dead.

He said the department received a distress call at 2.41pm.

Personnel from the Semporna Fire and Rescue Station (on water) rushed to the scene upon being alerted by the Semporna Police Headquarters.

“The operation was called off at 4.50pm today and will be continue tomorrow (Saturday),” he said.
