A man died and five others were injured in a two-vehicle crash near the Puncak Titiwangsa R&R on the East-West Highway today

IPOH: A man was killed and five others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on the East-West Highway (JRTB) today.

The accident occurred near the Puncak Titiwangsa Rest and Service Area (R&R) heading towards Jeli.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received an emergency call at 11.24am.

Seventeen personnel with five vehicles from the Gerik and Jeli fire stations were dispatched to the scene.

“A Perodua Ativa was found to have skidded and overturned into a drain, while a Kia Forte had skidded onto the road shoulder,” he said in a statement.

There were four victims in the Perodua Ativa, with a man in his 70s confirmed dead at the scene.

The three other occupants of the Ativa were injured, as were the two people in the Kia Forte.

All five injured victims were taken to Jeli Hospital for further treatment.

The body of the deceased was handed over to police for further action.
