Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are hitting the road together once again, only this time, it’s not tied to One Direction, but to a new Netflix documentary. The former bandmates of the British-Irish boy band that became a global pop phenomenon in the 2010s will film a three-part series chronicling a road trip across America, described in a press release as a “spontaneous adventure” filled with reconnection, exploration and laughter. Across the episodes, the duo will also be seen “opening up about life, love, loss, and fatherhood”, giving fans a rare look into the lives of two of the most private One Direction members.
Directed by Nicola Marsh (best known for Song Exploder and Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story) and produced by Campfire Studios (Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, Smartless: On the Road, and America’s Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders), the yet-untitled documentary is set to stream sometime in 2026. The project follows the death of their former bandmate Liam Payne, who passed away in Argentina in October 2024 at the age of 31.

Both Malik and Tomlinson from One Direction have had eventful solo careers leading up to the collaboration. Malik wrapped his ‘Stairway to the Sky’ headlining the tour earlier this year, performing in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Mexico City. He is also set to begin a Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM in January 2026, spanning songs from all four of his albums, from Mind of Mine to Room Under the Stairs. Tomlinson, meanwhile, is preparing to release his third studio album, How Did I Get Here?, on January 23, 2026, with a world arena tour launching next summer.
Several weeks after Malik and Tomlinson from One Direction were seen filming together at a Nashville bar, Tomlinson was asked by iHeartRadio about a possible reunion with his former bandmate. He answered coyly: “I thought that was pretty interesting, pretty astute… I just suppose they’d have to wait and see.”
