One shooter linked to gangster Deepak Nandal’s gang was shot dead and another injured during an encounter with the Gurugram police on Monday morning. A police constable was also injured in the crossfire and both injured men were admitted to hospital.

The police said the two shooters had been arrested in Punjab on Friday in connection with the firing outside the house of singer Rahul Fazilpuria’s event organiser, Saurabh Yadav, in Kanhai village in Sector 45.

The accused were identified as Gursher Singh alias Shera, 23, and Jaspal alias Bablu, 28, both residents of Tarn Taran in Punjab.

According to police, the encounter took place near Bandhwari village at around 9.30am on Monday when a police team took the accused to recover weapons allegedly hidden there. During the recovery operation, the accused allegedly picked up three pistols concealed near Bandhwari and opened fire at the police team.

“The accused launched a deadly attack, firing eight to 10 bullets at the police team with the intent to kill them. In retaliation, the police fired four rounds. Gursher alias Shera died on the spot, while Jaspal alias Bablu was injured. Constable Naveen was also shot in the crossfire,” a senior police officer said.

“The injured constable Naveen and accused Jaspal were admitted to hospital. Gursher’s body was sent for post-mortem examination,” the officer added.

Police said two shooters linked to gangster Deepak Nandal had opened fire outside Saurabh Yadav’s residence in Kanhai village in Sector 45 on Saturday night. During the attack, Constable Kulbir, who was deployed for Yadav’s security, suffered two bullet injuries. The accused fled the scene on a motorcycle after the shooting. An FIR was later registered at Sector 40 police station.

During the investigation, the Sector 40 crime unit arrested four accused from Gurugram on Monday night and Tuesday. The accused were identified as Ashok alias Pahalwan, 35, and Manoj Kabar, 46, both residents of Rohtak, and Sumit, 33, and Vicky, 36, both residents of Sonepat in Haryana.

On Saturday, a joint team from the Sector 39 and Sector 17 crime units arrested the two alleged shooters from Punjab.

“During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had come to kill Saurabh Yadav. The house was identified by the other arrested accused, who also provided vehicles, weapons and logistical support to carry out the crime,” a Gurugram police spokesperson said.

“Six accused have been arrested so far in the case. Gursher and Jaspal were the main shooters who opened fire outside Saurabh Yadav’s residence. Gursher was killed today during crossfire with police. Further investigation is under way,” the spokesperson added.
