One of Orthodox Christianity’s holiest sites in flames after Russian strikes

  • Russian airstrikes have caused a fire and substantial damage to the Dormition Cathedral in Kyiv, a site protected by Unesco as one of the holiest sites in Orthodox Christianity.
  • The leader of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine denounced Russian leader Vladimir Putin as the “Kremlin Antichrist” following the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra complex.
  • Photos after the overnight attack showed large parts of the cathedral were still on fire, with Kyiv’s military administration head confirming substantial damage.
  • Separate overnight Russian attacks also resulted in five deaths and at least 20 injuries in Kharkiv.
