Johor MB Onn Hafiz condemns spyware attack after Apple warning, files police report and MCMC complaint over data security breach.
JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has strongly condemned any form of spying, digital intrusion and misuse of technology by irresponsible parties.
This follows him receiving a warning notification from technology company, Apple, regarding an attempted spyware attack or mercenary spyware on a smartphone linked to his personal account.
Onn Hafiz, through a post on his Facebook page, stressed that he views the incident seriously as it involves data security, communication confidentiality and individual personal rights.
“I take this matter seriously because it involves data security, communication confidentiality, personal rights and attempted invasion of a person’s personal space.
“In this regard, I will file a police report and submit an official complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) so that a thorough investigation can be conducted and appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the law,” he said today.
In the post, he shared a screenshot showing a warning from Apple informing about an attempted digital espionage attack on his smart device.
Onn Hafiz at the same time prayed that all parties would be protected from any cyber intrusion that could threaten the security and personal rights of individuals.
