THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained the Chairman of IJM Corporation Berhad in connection with a case involving corporate governance issues, procurement processes, financial transactions and ownership of overseas assets estimated to be worth about RM2.5 billion.
According to sources, the suspect, a man in his 70s, was arrested at about 7 pm yesterday at the MACC Putrajaya headquarters after his residence was raided.
“MACC has conducted inspections and searches at three new locations, namely a fund and investment management institution, an investment bank and the suspect’s residence.
“Initial investigations found that the investment bank was appointed to manage the takeover bid process for IJM Corporation Berhad, including regulatory matters with a self-funded statutory body,” said the source.
On January 19, the Special Operations Division (BOK) conducted investigations into the suspect regarding corporate governance, procurement processes, financial transactions and ownership of assets totalling RM2.5 billion overseas and potential elements of offences under relevant legal provisions.
MACC has frozen 70 private bank accounts and related company accounts totalling approximately RM30.6 million.
According to the source, the investigation is also focusing on efforts to detect and seize other assets suspected to have been obtained through money laundering activities, and so far, the party has called 15 witnesses, including the suspect’s wife, to record their statements.
Meanwhile, Senior Director of the Special Operations Division (BOK), Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin, when contacted, confirmed the information and said that the focus of the investigation is on offences under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 4 (1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001).
He added that the suspect was released within 24 hours after his statement was taken, as the suspect also suffered from health problems. – February 6, 2026
