In a crackdown against organised crime and street criminals, the Delhi Police arrested 40 persons and recovered illegal weapons under “Operation Shastra” in Rohini district on May 27 and 28.

As part of the operation, all SDPOs, SHOs and operations teams were directed to intensify patrolling and checking across vulnerable areas in the district. Strategic pickets were installed and special verification drives were carried out against history-sheeters, proclaimed offenders and criminals released on bail, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal said.

The cop said 15 teams conducted continuous monitoring and intensive checking operations throughout the district.

During the drive, the police registered 18 cases under the Arms Act and arrested 19 persons. The recoveries included 11 country-made pistols (CMPs), 13 live cartridges, seven knives and two motorcycles.

As many as 21 history-sheeters, who were allegedly active in criminal activities, were also arrested during the operation, he said.

The police also initiated preventive action against those likely to disturb public peace. As many as 21 persons were arrested under preventive proceedings.

Further, 53 vehicles were seized and 571 persons were detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.
