
Shortly after these columns highlighted the danger posed by an open sewer manhole in Palampur, the Municipal Corporation (MC) acted promptly to repair the damaged structure, averting what residents feared could have turned into a serious accident.
The uncovered manhole, located on a busy stretch near St Pal Senior Secondary School, had become a major hazard for pedestrians, schoolchildren and motorists. Residents had repeatedly raised concerns, citing several accidents and near-miss incidents in the area.
Former councillor Dilbag Singh played a key role in ensuring prompt action. After the issue was reported, he took it up with Municipal Corporation officials and urged immediate repair to prevent any mishap. Acting on his intervention, the civic body promptly carried out repair work and installed sturdy steel grills over the manhole to ensure public safety.
Residents appreciated the Municipal Corporation’s quick response and acknowledged Dilbag Singh’s efforts in pursuing the matter. They said the hazard had remained unattended for a considerable time despite posing a serious risk to commuters.
They also lauded The Tribune for bringing the issue to light and facilitating swift corrective action, expressing hope that other damaged or uncovered manholes in the town would also be repaired on priority to prevent accidents.
The prompt action by the Municipal Corporation has brought relief to residents and restored safety on the stretch, underscoring the importance of public vigilance and timely intervention by local representatives.
