Finally, the long-awaited announcement came. No more suspense, no more guessing. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was chosen to be our 10th Prime Minister by our king after consultation with his fellow rulers. A big ‘Thank You’ to our king for this effort of getting our political parties together. ‘Thank You’ to all the sultans from the various states for sharing your wisdom with the king so that our king can be confident that he has done the right thing. ‘Thank You’ to all voters who took the responsibility to cast your votes on 19 November 2022 and made your voices heard. Indeed, we have a king who listens and cares.
Truly Malaysia has been through much recently - Covid-19, floods and political and economic instability. As I reflect, I said to myself, "I definitely do not wish to be in our king's position." During his reign, or king had to intervene to bring peace and stability to our last few years of political instability. He is the king who had to appoint Malaysia’s 8th, 9th and 10th Prime Ministers. He has to solve the problem of a Hung Parliament, the first in our nation after 15th General Election. I believe our king has gone through very challenging times and he demonstrated wisdom in consulting his fellow sultans.
‘Thank You’ too to our leaders from the Borneo Bloc and Barisan Nasional who have heeded our king’s advice to form a unity government. Forming an unity government takes a lot of humility and courage. You have shown the rakyat of Malaysia that democracy has matured and moved a notch up. I wish you great wisdom and forbearance as all work together for the good of Malaysia.
‘Thank You’ Pakatan Harapan for all that you have done during your 22 months of government after the 14th General Election and your willingness now to negotiate and work with the other parties for the sake of the nation. Thanks for demonstrating patience during the last few days of a Hung Parliament. May Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim be given wisdom and courage to always do what is right as he brings together people of high caliber and integrity into his cabinet of ministers.
Malaysians, let us all move forward and make Malaysia better! The best is yet to be.
