To those BN and PH lawmakers who called on the government to establish a new Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate the management and operations of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), the ordinary rakyat have no issue with it ON CONDITION that the costs for establishing a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) are to be FULLY BORNE by all of them personally and collectively and NOT from the government and the tax payers.
The ordinary rakyat is asking all these BN and PH lawmakers and also all other Members of Parliament, what is the purpose of an RCI when none of you respect and adhere to its findings?
Not only respect and adhere, did any of you pushed and monitor the implementations of the recommendations in every of the RCI that was set up over the years?
It was so obvious that depending on who or which political coalition is governing the country, the government of the day cherry-pick administrative or structural recommendations while ignoring politically sensitive or sweeping legal accountability measures recommended by an RCI.
And historically, full reports are classified under the Official Secrets Act, delaying public knowledge and structured tracking of implemented points for years.
Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) said it has implemented 75% (19 out of 25) of the recommendations made by the RCI regarding its management and financial operations between 2014 and 2020, with the remaining 25% currently work in progress.
Did any of you asked what are the 19 recommendations that were implemented?
And what are the 6 that are currently work in progress and when TH is expected to finish implementing it?
The above are just on the management and financial operations.
What about other areas highlighted by the RCI?
Are you going to leave it to the authorities ie the police and MACC to investigate and determine whether wrongdoings were committed?
None of you did anything of substance or concrete insofar as the findings by the RCI on TH are concerned except postulating.
And now you want to waste tax payers’ monies to set up another RCI?
Are you aware what is the total costs incurred to set up and have an RCI?
The expenditure is often defended as a necessary public investment to uncover systemic flaws, file appropriate legal or police actions, and institute structural reforms
Even though the government does not publicly release a single fixed price tag or a centralized budget breakdown for establishing a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI),
a RCI in Malaysia typically costs taxpayers several million Ringgit, reflecting large expenses for,
- Expert Panels & Salaries: Commissioners, legal counsel, and secretariat staff receive specialized daily allowances or service fees.
- Public Hearings: Renting venues, setting up transcript and recording systems, and managing media operations add up quickly.
- In-Depth Investigations: Hiring independent audit firms (like forensic accountants) to review complex financial or administrative trails drives up the final price tag.
If these BN and PH lawmakers are still adamant that an RCI be formed to scrutinise Lembaga Tabung Haji’s performance from 2021 to 2025, please undertake to pay the costs for the establishment and operations of an RCI.
Otherwise, stop postulating and give the impression that all of you are doing your job when the ordinary rakyat knows that all of you are just posturing with no real intention to really help the ordinary rakyat.
It is best that all of you focus on your duties and responsibilities as an MP for your constituency.
