Each time the Government changes, the damage done by the previous government comes to light, and the GE15 PM mandate Anwar Ibrahim had been passed the buck. A one trillion Ringgit National debt left by his predecessors was to be dealt with, something even his pay cut would be flagrantly too minuscule to cover. The nasty facts were revealed of contracts worth billions awarded without the open tender process and approved through direct negotiations but not yet realised due to the interruptions that came with the call for the GE15. The former finance minister also praised as one of the finest in Malaysian history has begun his tenure as the PM cum finance minister burning the midnight oil to conduct due diligence of vetting through these projects.
His quest for good governance has suspiciously undermined his predecessor's judgement of awarding contracts callously without open tenders and being prudent. He cited that the flood mitigation projects approved needed to be re-examined, not wanting the poor Rakyat, who were mostly Malays to suffer the consequences if they were halted. Having strong suspicions that some projects were hurriedly awarded without real reasons made the finance minister thread carefully (FMT).
The Sheraton Move not only ended the PH, a wet-behind-the-ears Government but also an alleged misappropriation of 600 billion ringgit which was a huge chunk from the current National debt of 1 trillion by the caretaker Government before GE15. However, these were claims made by the ex-chief minister of Melaka, Adly Zahari that the usage of funds during the period of the pandemic of covid -19.
Investigations were left to be handled by the MACC and the finance ministry also acknowledged irregularities involving the funds as alleged but did not confirm the specifics. A later report confirmed that the MACC was only investigating 92.5 billion out of an allotment of 530 billion which came out of the Government coffers and not 600 billion as reported. Therefore the investigation would be conducted to verify the 92.5 billion spent and not the remaining 437.5 billion (FMT).
The finance ministry is in the process of detailing the breakdown of funds and will submit it to the MACC soon. It is revealed that the funds were spent as part of economy incentive packages in 2020 in 2021 in relation to the management of Covid-19. Muhyiddin and his finance minister Zafrul select will be summoned to the MACC HQ for questioning and one can only imagine the level of courtesy that will be offered to the latter who is currently a full-fledged minister (FMT).
The PH faction who was a watchdog and opposition only weeks ago have been forcefully muzzled to reduce their fierce barks into just growls as they now sit on the same side as those who have to answer charges such as these.
News flashes of once arch enemies now hug and have merged to face a new enemy who was once also sitting on the same side of the table.
All these changes have made the Rakyat sceptical of its reality and only wonder about the permanency of the coalition bond.
The cabinet selection which was ridiculed by many but when put under a microscope is it logical to assume that the PH may have abstained from taking up Ministerial posts to entrap those given these positions, even though they had lost in the GE15.
It can only be imagined that the then ousted party by the deviously cunning Sheraton Move has developed some intriguing checkmate skills in a chess game known as politics.
Then again one can only hope all this is true.
