Bill O’Reilly might not have realised it, but his antic in calling Malaysia as a country that has no money, to deride China for courting Malaysia after Trump started his trade war, in a disgraceful attempt to persuade China to come crawling back to America, might actually be a blessing in disguise, that will help us see through the absurdity of that underlines the relationship between the America and the rest of the world.
That you have in America, a bunch of ill mannered Americans, slamming the door in our face as if they are a gift to the world and a light of civilization, and behaving as if the rest us in the world will have no joy, meaning or purpose in our lives unless they are a part of it, might be exactly what we need to hear and see to reevaluate our relationship with West.
In this world, it is actually not uncommon for people who are humble to be exploited by the proud, although it might actually be the humble ones that are more capable and talented, while the proud ones might have nothing more than an exaggerated view of their self-importance to prop themselves up at the top of the world.
The problem with the humble is that we are used to looking down on ourselves – we might spend our entire life bettering ourselves, and honed ourselves to the point where we have become very skillful and talented, but we will still not believe in our value and ability, unless we are appreciated by someone at the top.
This is despite the fact that those at the top often have nothing more than an exaggerated sense of self-importance, that is not based on anything real or meaningful, to prop up their position.
Take Bill O’Reilly for example – despite being in the media industry for decades he still can’t tell the difference between a Malay and a Malaysian. He was fired from his old job for multiple cases of sexual harassment . But despite that, he can still deride and sneer at Malaysia and China, as if he is absolutely sure that he is a gift from god, and we will all be miserable and wretched unless we beg him to be a part of our lives.
It is hard to say why the world is so used to looking up to the West – the fact that they used to colonize us might be one of the main reasons. You see, when you have lorded over someone for generations , dismissed all of their contributions and exaggerated your own, you will be able to condition them into believing that you thumbing them down incessantly while exaggerating your own importance is actually a form of love. It is in other words, akin to you telling them that your love for them is genuine, because you love them despite their obvious flaws and shortcomings, although you deserve much better on account of your obvious greatness. It is something that you probably did to justify the fact that you putting your foot on their head is actually equivalent to you extending your hands to lift them up.
For a long time, those you belittle and thumb down might accept such an abuse, because you have successfully crushed their self-esteem, but as they continue to practise and better themselves, while you get lax and sedentary because you are too accustomed to people fawning over you for no apparent reason, sooner or later, the ones that you exploit and thumb down will become better than you.
Despite that, they might still not believe that you need them more than they need you, for the same reason that a young elephant that is tied to a small tree will not believe that it is strong enough to break free from its bond even after it become a great big bull elephant, simply because it has been conditioned from young to believe that the small tree is too powerful.
But if you beat the bull elephant hard enough, and humiliate it badly enough, then you might inadvertently make the bull elephant realise just how powerful it is, and break its bonds with ease.
The hubris of Americans like Trump and O’Reilly, in humiliating us unnecessarily, is in a way, a blessing in disguise.
That they are incessantly humiliating us in this way, might be exactly the bitter medicine we need to take, to wake up and break free from the mindset that the colonizers have planted in the heads of our ancestors, and continue to condition in us until today, which is that it is they that are the gift to the world and the light of humanity, and that without them, we will be unable to survive or thrive.
Without being humiliated excessively by these absurd Americans, we might never realise that actually, we don't need the West - the West is actually a burden to us – we have much more to gain in not having them in our lives than having them in our lives – and that it is actually they who will not be able thrive, and maybe not even survive, without us, while we will not only be able to survive, we might finally even thrive without them.
