All these talk about toppling PMX is a waste of time.
MPs talk. They talk all the time without achieving much while the rakyat speculate as to what they (MPs) would do next.
Earlier last month, a self-acclaimed communication chief for a party alleged that Daim was planning to finance MPs to resign to bring down the government of the day. You know full well that it is pure speculation.
Why would Daim have to finance MPs to resign?
The self-acclaimed communicator then added that Daim would finance them again to contest for the same seats in subsequent election.
For a man as frugal as Daim, it does not make any sense whatsoever to waste hard earned money to pay them to resign and pay them yet again to contest the same seats. It’s insane.
However, that eventually quieted down only to be followed by a collection of Statutory Declaration (SD) from MPs supposedly in support of a motion of no confidence against PMX to be presented to the Agong.
Apparently, that would be ample proof that the majority have lost their confidence in the leadership of PMX.
According to some sources, the number of SD is 126. MPs talk about having the number sounding more like Anwar Ibrahim peddling the popular mantra 'I have the numbers' when he was on the outside trying to get in.
Anyway, would 126 be adequate to topple a PM?
But before they could get to the King with the SD, a palace spokesman was quoted as saying such an attempt would no longer be entertained by the monarch.
However, at the same time, don't you think we need a two-third majority for a no confidence motion to pass in Parliament?
In any case, this was later followed by MPs talking about wanting to try to move a motion of no confidence during the new sitting of Parliament.
PMX has issued a challenge to the opposition to try that route in Parliament. But it is still only a few days into the new session, maybe we should reserve judgement. MPs do need time to deliberate, to chat, to garner support to move a vote of no confidence against a sitting PM.
Recently, we talked to some constitutional experts. The consensus is that there is no need to get Daim to finance MPs to resign or gather SDs the way the 'backdoor' government did previously. All it needs to topple a sitting PM in a parliamentary democracy, said the experts, is for MPs to stand up in the assembly and be counted.
But do these MPs have enough guts to do so? Maybe PMX knows not many have the guts to do that in Parliament.
If they do not have what it takes, MPs should just shut up and get on with the work of being responsible as elected members and fight for what the ordinary rakyat wants from their MPs.
Don't waste more time talking about toppling PMX if you are unable to make it happen. The public is tired of your antics.
