As Malaysia is still dealing with a hot-button, ultra-sensitive racial issue of illegal temples, a mixed couple's 'act of love' in a strange spot got all the spotlight it deserved, proving that for all the talk of looming racial fractures, nothing quite brings Malaysians together like 'interracial unity' under the mid-day sun.

The couple -- one 58 year old Indian guy and one 37 year old Malay lady-- was arrested after a video of them committing lewd action made its way across the internet sphere.

But what makes most of the country scratch their head is their choice of place to commit such an act: a Chinese cemetary off Batu Gantung, Air Itam, Penang. The incident took place two days after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

A visitor who videoed the couple also interrupted the heat of the moment; a high-ptiched, grandmotherly voice is heard scolding them for their indecency.

According to the viral video, this is not the first time the couple was found naked in the cemetary.

Police investigation led to an arrest of the above-mentioned couple. They were investigated under Sections 294 and 509 of the Penal Code.

Shortly after, the couple was charged at George Town Magistrates Court. Both of them, M. Jegathesan and Halila Abu Bakar were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment under Section 377D of the Penal Code.

While seeking a lighter sentence, Lawyer for the acccused, R. Purantharan said that Halila was unemployed while Jegathesan worked as a security guard with a RM1,800 monthly salary. He is the sole breadwinner for his two children and a wife who suffered a stroke.

The incident led to light-hearted remarks by amused netizens, with some recalling the 1 Malaysia spirit amidst the increasing ethno-centric divide. 1 Malaysia is the political slogan introduced by Malaysia's sixth prime minister, Najib Razak.

Lawyer Shamsher Singh Thind joked that the only thing missing is a Sikh lawyer “urging them not plead guilty”, jokingly adding that only those who ‘who never have sex in public area’ have the right to condemn the couple.

Juani'Ayu Husin recalls the 1Malaysia spirit of the incident:

“Male is indian. Female is Malay. Cemetery is chinese 1 malaysia it is!”

Justin Chang meanwhile said that the many Chinese are now busy cleaning cemetaries for Ching Ming celebration and the gross action by the couple had dirtied the cemetary,

“All the Ghosts there get free sex show in the wild. Ini mesti layan Too much Savita Bhabhi content daily,” he said.

Another user sarcastically remarked that they should be given ‘a medal for bravery’ instead of being charged.
