Dr. Akmal Saleh, announced his resignation as a Melaka State Executive Councillor in January 2026 to protest and signal his commitment to fighting against DAP while representing grassroots Malay sentiments.

Although Akmal tendered his papers, the state leadership did not act to finalize it constitutionally or officially accept it, meaning he remained tied to his administrative duties.

In the end, the Melaka Chief Minister formally rejected Akmal's resignation letter, stating that the prerogative to accept or decline it rests with the Chief Minister.

And Akmal has since stayed on in the Exco in Melaka.

Anthony Loke said on September 19, 2026 that he will resign as Transport Minister, following the government's decision to grant PM6 a conditional house arrest.

A day after that, it was revealed that he is proceeding with a pre-arranged trip to China to represent Malaysia in the 12th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) transport ministers’ meeting.

The transport ministry said the event would involve several bilateral meetings and signings of memoranda of understanding, including deals between Putrajaya and Beijing in the land transport, rail, maritime, aviation and logistics sectors.

After the official event in Beijing, the minister is scheduled to travel to Shanghai to join Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s delegation before returning to Malaysia to handle matters related to his resignation as transport minister.

If he is resigning, why does he still want to proceed with the trip even though it was a pre-arranged trip?

Signing major international agreements right before stepping down can lock the ministry into long-term policies.

If a successor holds a different vision or strategic direction for Malaysia's logistics and transit infrastructure, they may find themselves constrained by deals signed at the literal eleventh hour.

The public already viewed the resignation as tentative rather than immediate, lending weight to criticisms that the transition is more about political damage control following PM6’s conditional pardon than a clean ministerial break.

Highly likely that upon his return from Beijing, Anthony Loke will just conclude his playscript like how Akmal concluded his playscript that he was advised not to leave their friends, that he have brought the people’s concerns on the pardon for PM6 to PMX but he has to listen to the party grassroots.

So much for a principled man and a principled party.
